Young Adult Resource Fair!

What up, American Red Cross Orange County Chapter Youth Services! Now is the time for you all to take a break from AP Test studying and read this super cool announcement!

I just want you all to remember that we will be hosting a Young Adult Resource Fair on Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 the Orange County Chapter!  All ages and grades are encouraged to show up!

At this way cool event, you can learn about internship and adult volunteer opportunities, how to get on a DAT Team (that's where you go visit homes that just burned down and give people money for food and hotels), go on Deployment (just like how I was deployed to New Jersey for Hurricane Sandy!), and hear from college Red Cross Club representatives about how to continue service as a college Red Cross club member. Most importantly, there will be free food! And a raffle. Remember those off-the-hook backpacks at Cause for Alarm? Well you can have one. Of your own. If you win the raffle.

More info. will be coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled!  If you want to come, please RSVP by Tuesday, May 23 to Steve.Tomasek2@redcross.org so I know how much food to buy.

Thanks, everybody!

Please don't fax in the nomations, as our fax machine is weaksauce.  Instead, please either drop them off to the Youth room at the chapter or scan and e-mail them to Megan Pierce at Megan.Pierce2@redcross.org.  Be sure to CC myself (Steve.Tomasek2@redcross.org) on all nomination forms.

Segerstrom High School. IHL. Washington, DC. OMG.

The International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Action Campaign Team of Youth Volunteers at Segerstrom High School has been selected to attend the National IHL Youth Symposium in Washington DC this summer!

The IHL Action Campaign team at Segerstrom High School was selected because of their outstanding work on their IHL Action Campaign project. Over the past several months, this group of motivated youth has worked tirelessly to educate their fellow peers on the importance of understanding International Humanitarian Law and Child Soldiers. The project consisted of a survey to gauge youth’s knowledge on the topic, followed by several awareness and educational activities. At the end of the school week, students were surveyed again to measure how much they had learned about  IHL. The process was recorded through a documentary that the youth created.

We will be celebrating the success of the group at the Orange County Chapter on May 3rd from 4:00PM - 5:00PM in room 208.
